Dr. Hornbein picture  

Dr. S. Lynn Hornbein is board certified in Family Practice. She attended the University of Washington School of Medicine, graduating in 1987 with an M.D. and a Masters in Public Health. She moved to Alaska in 1990 and opened her own practice in 1993.

 

Jeff Russell picture  

Jeff Russell, PA-C: Jeff has practiced with Dr. Hornbein at Summit Family Practice since 1996. He graduated top of his class at Duke University Medical School Physician Assistant Program where he also earned a Masters of Health Science. He provides care for all members of your family as well as physicals for school, employment, DOT and USCG.

 

Mary Barrett Photo   Mary Barrett, FNP: Mary is certified as a family nurse practitioner. She earned a Master of Science in Nursing from UAA, a BSN in 1981 from University of Colorado, and a B.A. in Biology/Environmental Science from Wesleyan University. She has worked many years in urgent care and has an interest in nutrition and exercise to maintain good health. She is a competitive runner and grows a garden every summer.
Daryl Photo  

Daryl Bjelde, PA-C: Daryl graduated from the University of North Dakota in 1978 and has been in the medical field ever since.  He moved to Alaska in 1993, and worked in Bethel before coming to Anchorage in 2006.  Daryl specializes in orthopaedics and also holds a degree as a registered nurse.

Jan Bacon Photo  

Janice Bacon moved to Alaska in 1974 in search of adventure. She spent most of her 35 year nursing career in the emergency department and teaching EMT’s. Her original nursing degree ASN (1972) was received in Santa Barbara City College, Santa Barbara, California. She received both her BSN (1980) and MSN (1999) from the University of Alaska. She also has a master’s degree in teaching from Alaska Pacific University (1988). Now Jan prefers the slower pace of the urgent care at Summit Family Practice.

Bertha Tien picture   Bertha J. Tien, M.D: Board certified in Family Medicine and offering Medical Acupuncture.  She graduated from Duke University and received her medical training at the University of New Mexico.  Additional education includes Medical Acupuncture through the Helms Medical Institute with board certification in Medical Acupuncture pending.  Enjoys traveling, downhill skiing, tennis, reading, beading and knitting.  She has 2 energetic kids that make sure that she is never bored!
Kristen Kemerling photo   Kristen Kemerling, MSCP: Kristen is a counselor with Summit Family Practice. She earned a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from Alaska Pacific University (APU), and also a Master of Science degree in Management from the University of Wisconsin– Milwaukee. She currently teaches as an adjunct professor in the psychology department at APU. Kristen provides counseling services to both adults and adolescents for a variety of issues including: depression, anxiety (including panic attacks), communication and relationship issues, self-esteem issues, stress management, anger management, sexual/gender issues, lifestyle changes (e.g., exercise, weight loss, smoking cessation, chronic physical illness or acute injury, pain management, career change, menopause, successful aging), and  grief and loss issues. She believes in a positive, strength-based approach to counseling. She enjoys running marathons, hiking, traveling, photography/videography, and is currently taking viola lessons. For the past few years, Kristen has been learning to speak Spanish.
